The Oscars are two weeks away, and I wouldn’t be shocked if you had NO IDEA. 2020 was a weak movie year due to the pandemic.(And let’s be honest, the Oscars aren’t what they were 20 or 30 years ago.) So, “Rolling Stone” combed through the past 20 ceremonies and ranked the Oscar-winning Best Actor and Best Actress performances.
We thought it would be more interesting to focus on the performances that they thought were the WORST of the winners.
The worst Best Actor of the past 20 years is:
20. Jean Dujardin in “The Artist”
The next five are:
19. Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart”
18. Gary Oldman in “Darkest Hour”
17. Rami Malek in “Bohemian Rhapsody”
16. Jamie Foxx in “Ray”
15. Sean Penn in “Mystic River”
For the record, the #1 BEST-Best Actor is: Daniel Day-Lewis in “There Will Be Blood”, followed by Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Capote”.
The worst Best Actress of the past 20 years is:
20. Meryl Streep in “The Iron Lady”
The next five are:
19. Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side”
18. Nicole Kidman in “The Hours”
17. Kate Winslet in “The Reader”
16. Renée Zellweger in “Judy”
15. Reese Witherspoon in “Walk the Line”
The #1 BEST-Best Actress is: Julianne Moore in “Still Alice”, followed by Helen Mirren in “The Queen”.
