Kacey Musgraves on the Country Music Hall of Fame “Okaying” Her Support of LGBTQ Rights

KACEY MUSGRAVES was at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday to help introduce her new exhibit.  She said seeing her life and career on display like that “hit her in an emotional way.”

She’s also proud of the section featuring her song “Follow Your Arrow”, and its famous lyric, “Kiss lots of boys / Or kiss lots of girls if that’s something you’re into.”  It includes a photo of her posing with contestants on “RuPaul’s Drag Race”

She told the “Tennessean” why that’s very important to her.  Quote, “Country music is built on real people, and real stories, and I don’t know why a genre that is built on those things wouldn’t move along with history.  We have to tell everybody’s story.

“We’re all real people.  We’re all built and are driven by the same emotions.  There are people in the LGBTQ community that grow up in tiny towns just like I did, that are terrified to be themselves, and they need people in country music to look up to.

“So I think it’s very cool.  If the institution of the Country Music Hall of Fame can say that it’s okay, then nobody else can’t.”
