I think we all WANT to hear patriotic songs around the 4th of July. Feels good when Lee Greenwood belts out “God Bless the U.S.A.” . . . and Aaron Tippin sings “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly”.
But if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find plenty of songs that also celebrate America, but in a subtle way. These are songs that talk about the people and places and everyday things we do that demonstrate who we are.
CMT put together a list of them they call the “23 Unexpectedly Patriotic Country Songs That We Have on Repeat.”
Here are 12 highlights, in no particular order . . .
1. Jason Aldean, “Fly Over States”
2. Kacey Musgraves, “Dime Store Cowgirl”
3. Alabama, “Born Country”
4. Dixie Chicks, “Wide Open Spaces”
5. Justin Moore, “Small Town USA”
6. Clay Walker, “The Chain of Love”
7. Trace Adkins, “Arlington”
8. Miranda Lambert, “Airstream Song”
